     At 35 years old, I founded a Wedding DJ business that has since taken off. Yet, with weddings mainly happening after hours or weekends, my weekdays were brimming with downtime and unexplored potential. I was trying to figure out how to use my newfound time best when I saw a commercial outlining hugely successful people who started new careers later in life. One story in particular stood out to me. J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter in her 30s while being financially destitute and raising two kids after a messy divorce. I can't remember specifically what was so compelling about her story, but I recall thinking then that maybe I could do that, too! That I would start writing a novel. Despite my prior writing endeavors being limited to an eight-page analysis of Britney Spears' song, "Lucky," I knew I had the tenacity, time, and storytelling ability to do it and that I wouldn't stop until I had written a novel. 

    ​The following day, over breakfast with friends, I shared my bold plan to write a novel and even dared to ask if I could use their children's names as main characters in the story. Amused at my ambitious endeavor, they gave me full permission to use all six of their kids' names in the book. Seven weeks later, I completed my first draft at nearly 90,000 words. I have since joined a writing community, received feedback from six beta readers, and completed my fourth draft with two additional chapters based on that feedback, all within four months. 

     My name is Dane Boffey, and I am currently seeking representation for my novel "Cable Valley Academy: Home of the Missing Hornets," a captivating YA urban fantasy commercial fiction totaling 89,000 words. With its blend of small-town drama, secret societies, family dysfunction, high school cliques, and, of course, high-stakes fantasy situations. This book will resonate strongly with those who would enjoy a RIVERDALE meets STRANGER THINGS mash-up that dips its toes in THE HUNGER GAMES arena moments
